Christian Hastad

Artwork as reflection, process, and subtlety

Beginning with traditional chiaroscuro drawing and limited palette oil painting, Christian has thoughtfully navigated through classical forms of figurative imagery and has arrived at a contemporary way of approaching, seeing, and creating. This new way of approaching the passion of painting, drawing, and sculpting has lead to intense and often rapid style shifts and movements. From abstract color fields, calligraphic expressionism, and minimalism to landscape and maximalist gestural styles, Christian’s process strives to produce artworks of which rigid definitions inexplicably escape.

Each artwork is 100% hand crafted, from the stretcher bars to the application of paint. This dedication to process, high quality material, and visceral imagery/object-hood shines in every individual piece.
